Terms of Use
Last updated: April 2026 · Please read these terms carefully before using this service
⚠️ Important — Please Read First
The Journal Tapping Method is a self-help tool. It is not medical advice, therapy, or mental health treatment.
By using this website, app, or any sessions with Nova, you agree that you are using a self-help educational service — not receiving healthcare, psychological care, or any form of regulated treatment. Always seek the advice of your GP or qualified health professional with any questions about a medical or mental health condition.
If you do not agree with these terms, please do not use the service.
1. About These Terms
These Terms of Use ("Terms") are a legally binding agreement between you and The Journal Tapping Method, operated by Michelle Walsh, based in Eastbourne, East Sussex, UK ("we," "us," "our"). They govern your access to and use of the website at thejournaltappingmethod.com, the iOS and Android app, all guided sessions with Nova, and any related services (together, the "Service").
By creating an account, subscribing, or otherwise using the Service, you confirm that you have read, understood, and agreed to these Terms and our Privacy Policy.
2. The Service Is Self-Help — Not Medical or Therapeutic Advice
2.1 What this service is
The Journal Tapping Method is an educational self-help platform that combines journaling and EFT (Emotional Freedom Techniques) tapping. It is intended to support general emotional wellbeing and nervous system regulation in children aged 9–18 and their parents.
2.2 What this service is not
The Service is not, and is not a substitute for:
- Medical advice, diagnosis, or treatment
- Mental health therapy, counselling, or psychotherapy
- Psychological assessment or psychiatric care
- Crisis intervention or emergency mental health services
- Any other regulated healthcare service
Nova is an AI-powered guide. Nova is not a doctor, therapist, psychologist, counsellor, psychiatrist, or any other qualified health professional. Sessions with Nova do not create a doctor-patient, therapist-client, or any other professional care relationship.
2.3 Always seek a qualified professional
Always consult your GP or another qualified healthcare professional before relying on any information or technique from this Service for a health concern, mental health concern, or any condition affecting you or your child. Never disregard professional medical advice — or delay seeking it — because of something you read or experienced on this Service.
If you or your child are experiencing a mental health crisis, thoughts of self-harm or suicide, severe distress, or any acute medical or psychological emergency, stop using the Service and contact emergency services (999 in the UK), Samaritans (116 123), Childline (0800 1111), or your nearest A&E immediately.
3. Eligibility & Children
The Service is intended for children aged 9–18 and their parents or legal guardians. By using or subscribing to the Service:
- If you are 18 or over, you confirm you have the legal capacity to enter into these Terms.
- If you are setting up an account for a child, you confirm you are the parent or legal guardian and consent to their use of the Service.
- Children under 18 must use the Service with parental awareness and consent. A monthly parent password is required for child and teen sessions.
- Children under 9 should not use the Service.
Parents and guardians are responsible for monitoring their child's overall wellbeing and ensuring the Service remains appropriate for their individual child.
4. Your Account
You are responsible for keeping your login details confidential and for any activity that takes place on your account. Please notify us immediately if you suspect unauthorised use of your account. We may suspend or close accounts that violate these Terms.
Membership is for personal, non-commercial family use. You may not share your login or membership with anyone outside your immediate household.
5. Subscription, Payment & Cancellation
Membership of The Journal Tapping Method costs £12.99 per month, billed in advance on a recurring monthly basis through our payment processor, Stripe. Prices include applicable taxes where required.
You can cancel your membership at any time from your account settings. Cancellation takes effect at the end of your current billing period — you will continue to have access until then. We do not provide refunds for partial months.
We may change subscription pricing from time to time. Any change will be communicated to existing members at least 30 days in advance and will not take effect until your next billing cycle after that period.
6. Acceptable Use
When using the Service, you agree not to:
- Use it for anything illegal, harmful, fraudulent, or in breach of these Terms
- Share, sell, or resell access, or use one account across multiple households
- Attempt to bypass, reverse-engineer, or interfere with the platform or its security
- Submit harmful, abusive, or unlawful content into journal entries, sessions, or community spaces
- Use the Service to harass, threaten, impersonate, or harm any person
- Scrape, copy, or republish content from the Service without written permission
- Rely on the Service in place of professional medical or mental health support
We may suspend or terminate accounts that breach this section.
7. Nova & AI Sessions
Nova is powered by artificial intelligence. While we have designed Nova carefully and built in safety measures including a crisis-detection protocol, AI is not perfect — Nova may occasionally produce content that is unhelpful, mistaken, or unsuitable. You are responsible for using your own judgment about whether to follow any prompt or guidance from Nova.
If anything in a Nova session feels wrong, distressing, or inappropriate for you or your child, stop the session and seek support from a qualified professional. Crisis-detection in the Service is a safety prompt, not a clinical assessment, and should never be relied on as such.
8. Intellectual Property
All content on the Service — including text, design, branding, logos, the "Journal Tapping Method" name, course materials, and Nova's structure — is owned by Michelle Walsh / The Journal Tapping Method or licensed to us. You may use the Service for personal use only.
You retain ownership of your own journal entries and personal content. By submitting content to the Service, you grant us a limited licence to process it solely for the purpose of delivering the Service to you (e.g. generating Nova's tapping scripts).
9. Limitation of Liability
To the fullest extent permitted by law:
- The Service is provided "as is" and "as available," without warranties of any kind, express or implied.
- We do not warrant that the Service will be uninterrupted, error-free, or always available.
- We accept no liability for any decision you make based on content from the Service, or for any outcome — emotional, psychological, medical, or otherwise — arising from your use of the Service.
- We are not liable for any indirect, incidental, consequential, special, or punitive damages.
- Our total aggregate liability to you for any claim related to the Service shall not exceed the amount you paid us in subscription fees in the 12 months preceding the claim.
Nothing in these Terms limits or excludes any liability that cannot lawfully be limited or excluded under UK law — including liability for death or personal injury caused by negligence, or for fraud.
10. Indemnity
You agree to indemnify and hold harmless The Journal Tapping Method, Michelle Walsh, and any associated parties against any losses, claims, or damages arising from your misuse of the Service, your breach of these Terms, or your reliance on the Service in place of professional medical or mental health advice.
11. Changes to the Service or These Terms
We may update the Service, change features, or amend these Terms from time to time. Where changes are material, we will notify members by email and update the "Last updated" date at the top of this page. Continued use of the Service after notification constitutes acceptance of the updated Terms.
12. Termination
You may stop using the Service at any time by cancelling your subscription and closing your account. We may suspend or terminate your access at any time if we reasonably believe you have breached these Terms or if continuing to provide the Service is not viable.
On termination, the disclaimers, limitations of liability, indemnities, and intellectual property provisions of these Terms will continue to apply.
13. Governing Law & Jurisdiction
These Terms are governed by the laws of England and Wales. Any dispute arising out of or in connection with these Terms or the Service will be subject to the exclusive jurisdiction of the courts of England and Wales, except where mandatory consumer law gives you the right to bring proceedings in another jurisdiction.
⚠️ One more important reminder
The Journal Tapping Method is a self-help tool — not therapy, not medical advice, not a substitute for professional care. Always consult your GP, a qualified mental health professional, or emergency services for any concern that goes beyond general self-help.
If you or your child are in crisis right now: call 999, Samaritans 116 123, Childline 0800 1111, or text SHOUT to 85258.
